Emotional Sequelae of Termination

Most individuals are deeply affected by losing their jobs. Problems are compounded when the individual perceived when he or she is wrongfully terminated. Typical responses are depression, anxiety, and family conflict. A forensic psychologist evaluates whether an individual has psychological problems and whether and to what extent these problems are due to a wrongful firing. Most individuals link their sense of self worth to their ability as a bread winner. Compounding the blow to their self esteem by losing their job along with a perception that they have been unjustly terminated, will exacerbate any preexisting psychological difficultly or preexisting family problem, particularly marital problems.
